The Year Of The Horse and What it can mean for you

Hello,

Welcome back to our monthly blog and thank you all so much for being here. This month is moving pretty fast and today felt like a great day to send out this blog as its the official chinese new year today,so happy new year to those who celebrate!

So what does the Year Of The Horse mean and how can you plan the best year yet for your horse.
In the zodiac the Horse symbolises freedom, strength, movement, independence and passion. It’s a year associated with momentum, bold decisions and forward energy, which is defintely something every horse owner understands deeply.
So how can we use the spirit of the Year of the Horse to make 2026 your best year yet?

📝 1. Set Clear Goals
Instead of drifting from show to show, take 30 minutes this week and ask yourself:
  • What do I want to achieve with my horse this year?
  • Is it competition-based?
  • Is it confidence-building?
  • Is it fitness?
  • Is it simply enjoying the journey more?
Write it down.
Whether it’s moving up a class, completing your first hunter trial, improving flatwork consistency, or simply riding more consistently. Clarity Creates Progress.

📅 2. Plan your event calendar early and start to look ahead now at:
  • Local shows
  • Riding club qualifiers
  • Training clinics
  • Championships
Adding these to your calendar early can keep you motivated which also gives your training direction and can help to reduce some of that last minute stress.
Don’t forget to schedule fun, low-pressure outings too like arena hires, beach rides, fun rides. Not every outing needs to be competitive.

📲 3. Get Organised
This year we’ve started using the 🔗My Cheval app and its honestly been a game changer.
It keeps track of:
  • Farrier appointments
  • Vaccinations
  • Physio visits
  • Health notes
  • Training logs
  • Competition dates
  • Rugging recomendations for your area (our favourite part)
When you’re balancing work, life and horses (which most of us are), having your horse’s full record organised and accessible removes so much mental load.
If you’re someone who loves planning and staying ahead this is such a good tool.

🏋️ 4. Create a Training Structure
Momentum is powerful but it needs direction so start to think about building a simple weekly rhythm:
  • Flatwork focus day
  • Polework or jumping session
  • Fitness hack
  • Groundwork session
  • Rest day
Even a loose plan keeps you progressing instead of repeating the same ride week after week.

💆 5. Schedule Preventative Care
The strongest seasons are built on solid foundations.
  • Book in ahead:
  • Dentist
  • Physio
  • Saddle checks
  • Vaccinations
  • Farrier schedule
Prevention is always better then the cure.
We’ve also been extra mindful about what we use day to day, from grooming products to coat care. Switching to natural-based products (like the 🔗Hairy Pony range we stock) has been a lovely upgrade in our yard routine. Small details, but they add up over a full season.

🌿 6. Refresh the Essentials
A new year is the perfect excuse to:
  • Replace worn brushes
  • Refresh grooming kits
  • Upgrade your everyday essentials
When you enjoy your daily routine, consistency becomes easier and consistency is what transforms seasons.

💛 7. Remember Why You Started
The Horse zodiac is known for spirit and independence but also loyalty and heart so try to make space this year for:
  • Slow hacks
  • slow walks
  • Grazing breaks
  • Bareback moments
  • Standing in the stable just because

Not every ride needs a goal and sometimes the biggest win is simply enjoying your horse.

✨ Our 2026 Motto ✨
Move with intention.
Care with purpose.
Enjoy every stride.

Here’s to a powerful Year of the Horse for you and your equine partner.
